R.A. Jones Music Department Mission Statement
The mission of the R.A. Jones music department is to provide every student with a high quality music education regardless of ability level or background. Our goal is to help students achieve a personal level of understanding, appreciation, and passion for music while contributing to our school and community through musical performances. We offer a variety of courses for students to choose from including band, choir, guitar ensemble, general music, and history of rock and roll. Our instrumental and choral classes are designed for the development of individual and team skills through the rehearsal and performance of appropriate musical literature. Performing ensembles work together to put on concerts throughout the school year. Instrumental and vocal students also have the opportunity to showcase their skills in extracurricular and regional ensembles such as Honor Choir, Select Band, Solo and Ensemble, and Jazz Band. Our general music classes and music electives offer students the opportunity to enhance their musical knowledge through listening, creating, dancing, singing and performing on a variety of instruments. The R.A. Jones music department strives to provide all students with a comprehensive, rigorous and enjoyable music education.
Welcome Back, Band Students!
I know it's hard to believe, but the new school year is quickly approaching! I am very excited to begin my third year of teaching at R.A. Jones! In addition to teaching band this year, I will also be in charge of directing the choirs. I look forward to this new challenge and to the continued growth and development of our music programs as we strive for excellence in all of our endeavors. Returning band students, please make sure that you are practicing your instruments - scale preps. and scales are a great place to start and your method books are an excellent tool! If you have not already signed up for band, but are still interested, we have room for you! Please get in touch with Miss Castle, a guidance counselor, or administrator immediately if you would like to join. You'll find more information in the handbook below or by clicking on the "Joining Band" link at the top of this page.
RAJMS Music Dept. Handbooks
Below you'll find an electronic copy of the RAJMS Band and Choir Handbooks. Sixth grade band students and all choir students will be receiving a printed version of the handbook this year. 7th and 8th grade band students will receive the signature page only as the band handbook has not changed. The handbooks outline all of our classroom, co-curricular, and extracurricular policies and contain a detailed list of the supplies students will need for each class. Please refer to this if you have any questions. You may also contact Miss Castle at any time.
